Louisiana Shrimp Dip Recipe

  • Author: Harry
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

Louisiana Shrimp Dip is a creamy, flavorful appetizer featuring tender shrimp cooked with Cajun spices, cream cheese, and sour cream. This warm dip is perfect for parties and gatherings, baked to a bubbly, golden finish and garnished with fresh green onions.

Ingredients

Scale

Sauté Base

  • ¼ cup salted butter
  • ½ cup minced shallot (about 1 large shallot)
  • 1 cup diced red bell pepper (about 1 bell pepper)

Shrimp Mixture

  • 1 pound chopped small raw shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic (about 3 large cloves)
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning (or Creole seasoning)

Creamy Base

  • 8 ounces softened cream cheese
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Seasoning & Garnish

  • Salt (to taste)
  • Ground black pepper (to taste)
  • Sliced green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the dip.
  2. Sauté vegetables: Heat an 8 or 10-inch oven-safe skillet over medium heat and melt ¼ cup salted butter. Add minced shallot and diced red bell pepper, cooking for 3-4 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  3. Cook the shrimp: Add chopped raw shrimp, Cajun seasoning, and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for about 2 minutes until the shrimp turns pink and is cooked through. Remove the shrimp mixture from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Melt the cream cheese base: In the same skillet, add softened cream cheese, sour cream, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir continuously over heat until the cream cheese is fully melted and the mixture is bubbling around the edges. Turn off the heat.
  5. Combine shrimp with cream cheese mixture: Return the cooked shrimp mixture to the skillet and stir until evenly distributed and well combined. Season with salt and ground black pepper to taste.
  6. Bake the dip: Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the top of the dip turns lightly golden brown and bubbles at the edges.
  7. Garnish and serve: Remove from the oven, sprinkle sliced green onions on top, and serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • Use an oven-safe skillet to avoid transferring the dip to another dish for baking.
  • For best flavor, use fresh shrimp rather than frozen.
  • Cajun seasoning can be adjusted according to your spice preference or substituted with Creole seasoning.
  • Serve with crackers, bread, or vegetable sticks for dipping.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated gently in the oven or microwave.
