Description

Enjoy a delightful snack with these Honey Mustard Pretzels, a copycat of Dot’s famous recipe. These pretzels are coated with a tangy and sweet honey mustard sauce, baked low and slow to achieve a perfect crunchy texture. Enhanced with a mix of spices and a rich blend of mustard flavors, they’re perfect for snacking or party platters.

Ingredients

Scale

Pretzels

  • 1 lb. (16 oz.) bag pretzels (tiny twists, butter braids, or butter waffle/butter snap pretzels)

Honey Mustard Sauce

  • 3/4 cup vegetable or canola oil
  • 34 Tbsp. honey (adjust to taste for sweetness)
  • 2 Tbsp. ground mustard powder
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. white vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. seasoned salt (such as Lawry’s)
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric
  • 1/8 tsp. paprika

Additional Seasoning Mix

  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. mustard powder
  • 2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. seasoned salt
  • Pinch of turmeric

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 225°F and line two standard half baking sheets (18×13 inches) with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the pretzels: Pour the entire bag of pretzels into a large mixing bowl, ready to be coated.
  3. Make the honey mustard sauce: In a measuring cup or small bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, honey, ground mustard powder, white vinegar, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, granulated sugar, garlic powder, seasoned salt, onion powder, turmeric, and paprika until fully combined.
  4. Coat the pretzels: Pour this sauce over the pretzels, stirring thoroughly to ensure every piece is well coated with the flavorful mixture.
  5. Bake the pretzels: Spread the coated pretzels evenly across the two prepared baking sheets, allowing for a little overlap but trying to keep them mostly in a single layer. Bake at 225°F for 40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes and rotating the baking sheets as needed to prevent uneven browning. The slow baking helps develop crunch without burning.
  6. Cool the pretzels: Remove from the oven and allow the pretzels to cool completely on the baking sheets, spreading them out to avoid clumping as they harden and crisp up.
  7. Add extra seasoning: Transfer the cooled pretzels to a bowl or sealable bag, sprinkle on the additional seasoning mix (mustard powder, garlic powder, seasoned salt, and turmeric), then stir or shake thoroughly to coat evenly.
  8. Serve and store: These pretzels develop more flavor as they sit, making them perfect for preparing ahead. Serve as a crunchy, savory-sweet snack anytime!

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of honey in the sauce to customize sweetness.
  • Ensure pretzels are spread in a mostly single layer while baking and cooling to prevent sticking and clumping.
  • Stirring every 10 minutes during baking ensures even coating and browning.
  • Use parchment-lined baking sheets to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  • These pretzels are best stored in an airtight container to maintain crunchiness.
  • The flavor improves after resting for a few hours or overnight.
