Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Base

  • 1 box chewy fudge brownie mix (18.3 oz, Duncan Hines Family Size)
  • 2 eggs (or as called for on box)
  • 3 tablespoons water (or as called for on box)
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil (or as called for on box)

French Silk Pie Filling

  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips or baking bar (finely chopped)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (room temperature)
  • 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces frozen whipped topping (thawed)

Topping

  • 8 ounces whipped topping (thawed)
  • Chocolate bar shavings (semi-sweet or dark, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan: Spray a 9×9 inch baking pan with non-stick spray and line it with parchment paper to ensure easy removal of the brownies after baking.
  2. Make Brownie Batter: Prepare the brownie mix according to the package instructions using the eggs, water, and vegetable oil. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake as directed until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the brownies to cool completely.
  3. Melt Chocolate and Butter: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the finely chopped chocolate chips and unsalted butter in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until smooth. Let the mixture cool completely to room temperature.
  4. Beat Cream Cheese: Using a mixer, beat the room temperature cream cheese on medium speed for 1 to 2 minutes until it becomes light and fluffy.
  5. Add Powdered Sugar: Gradually add the powdered sugar to the cream cheese while mixing on low speed, beating until the mixture is smooth and lump-free.
  6. Incorporate Vanilla and Chocolate: Add the vanilla extract and the cooled melted chocolate mixture to the cream cheese blend. Beat on medium speed until fully incorporated and the mixture is fluffy.
  7. Fold in Whipped Topping: Gently fold the thawed frozen whipped topping into the chocolate cream cheese mixture using a spatula until no white streaks remain.
  8. Assemble: Spread the French silk chocolate mixture evenly over the cooled brownie base. Then, spread the remaining whipped topping on top.
  9. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the assembled brownies for 1 to 2 hours until set. Before serving, garnish with chocolate shavings for an elegant finish.

Notes

  • Ensure the brownies are completely cooled before spreading the French silk filling to prevent melting or running.
  • Use room temperature cream cheese for smooth mixing and a creamy texture.
  • Thaw whipped toppings fully and fold gently to maintain fluffiness.
  • For a richer chocolate flavor, use high-quality semi-sweet or dark chocolate for both melting and shavings.
  • Line the pan with parchment paper to lift the brownies easily from the pan after chilling.
  • Chill times can be adjusted; longer chilling will yield firmer slices.
