Dirt Cups Recipe

  • Author: Harry
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

Dirt Cups are a fun and easy no-bake dessert featuring layers of creamy chocolate pudding, crushed chocolate sandwich cookies, and gummy worms for a playful ‘dirt and worms’ effect, perfect for kids’ parties or a whimsical treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookies

  • 16 chocolate sandwich cookies (e.g., Oreos)

Pudding Mixture

  • 4 cups cold milk
  • Two 3.4 ounce boxes instant chocolate pudding mix
  • One 8 ounce tub whipped topping (thawed)

Decoration

  • 24 gummy worms

Instructions

  1. Crush the cookies: Place the cookies in a large resealable bag and use a rolling pin to crush them into fine crumbs. Alternatively, you can use a food processor. Set the cookie crumbs aside for layering.
  2. Prepare the pudding: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cold milk and the two boxes of instant chocolate pudding mix. Whisk until smooth. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes to thicken properly.
  3. Fold in whipped topping: Gently fold the thawed whipped topping into the chocolate pudding until it is well incorporated and creamy.
  4. Layer the dessert: Fill each of 8 plastic cups with about 1/3 cup of the pudding mixture as the first layer.
  5. Add cookie crumb layer: Sprinkle a heaping tablespoon of crushed Oreos over the pudding layer in each cup.
  6. Repeat layers: Add the remaining pudding mixture as a second layer followed by another sprinkling of the remaining crushed Oreos.
  7. Decorate with gummy worms: Place 2-3 gummy worms on top of each cup to mimic worms in dirt, enhancing the fun presentation.

Notes

  • You can crush the cookies using a food processor for quicker results.
  • Make sure the whipped topping is fully thawed to blend smoothly into the pudding.
  • Use clear plastic cups to showcase the layered ‘dirt’ effect visually.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute pudding mix and whipped topping with plant-based alternatives.
  • Chill the dirt cups in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving to improve texture and flavor melding.
