  • Author: Harry
  • Total Time: 2 hours 20 minutes (including chilling time)
  • Yield: Approximately 80 peppermint patties 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

These festive Christmas Peppermint Patties are a creamy, colorful treat perfect for holiday celebrations. Made with a simple combination of cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and peppermint extract, these patties are delightfully smooth and bursting with minty flavor. Colored in red and green for a cheerful holiday vibe, they are rolled into bite-sized pieces and chilled until firm, making them an easy and impressive sweet to share with family and friends.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 4 tbsp salted butter, softened
  • 2 pounds confectioners’ sugar, plus additional for rolling
  • 2 teaspoons peppermint extract
  • Red gel food coloring
  • Green gel food coloring
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (optional, for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Cream the Base: Using an electric mixer, beat together the softened cream cheese, softened butter, and peppermint extract until smooth and well combined.
  2. Add the Sugar: Gradually incorporate the confectioners’ sugar, mixing on low speed just until the mixture is combined and smooth. Avoid overmixing.
  3. Prepare the Surface: Dust a non-stick surface generously with additional powdered sugar to prevent sticking during shaping.
  4. Divide and Color: Divide the dough evenly into 4 portions. Add a few drops of red food coloring to two portions and green food coloring to the other two, mixing each portion until the color is evenly distributed.
  5. Shape the Ropes: Roll each colored dough portion into a 20-inch long rope. Then cut each rope into 20 even pieces, dusting with powdered sugar between batches to prevent sticking.
  6. Form Patties: Roll each piece into a ball, then optionally roll into granulated sugar for added texture. Press the center of each with a fork dipped in powdered sugar to create a decorative indentation, similar to a peanut butter cookie.
  7. Chill to Set: Place the formed patties on a wax paper-lined baking sheet. Let them rest for about 2 hours or until dry and firm.
  8. Store: Store the patties chilled with wax paper between layers to prevent sticking until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Use full-fat cream cheese for best texture and flavor.
  • If you prefer a stronger peppermint flavor, you can add an extra half teaspoon of peppermint extract.
  • Dusting with granulated sugar is optional but adds a nice crunchy texture.
  • Make sure to chill the patties well before serving to maintain their shape.
  • These patties can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
