  • Author: Harry
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 12 pinwheel bites 1x

Description

These Cheeseburger Pinwheel Pizza Bites combine the savory flavors of classic cheeseburgers with cheesy pizza in a fun, bite-sized roll. Ground beef cooked with onions, garlic, tomatoes, and spices is spread over pizza dough, rolled into pinwheels, and baked to golden perfection. Topped with melted cheddar cheese and a sprinkle of sesame seeds, these pinwheels make an irresistible appetizer or snack perfect for parties and family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Filling

  • 16 oz lean ground beef
  • ½ cup diced yellow onions
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 cup canned diced tomatoes, drained
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp Dijon mustard
  • ½ tsp kosher salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Main

  • 16 oz pizza dough
  • 8 oz Cabot Seriously Sharp Cheddar cheese, shredded and divided
  • ½ Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Cook beef mixture: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef, diced onions, and minced garlic. Stir occasionally and cook for 7-9 minutes until the beef is fully cooked and browned.
  2. Add seasonings: Stir in the drained diced tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, kosher salt, and black pepper. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until all liquid has evaporated. Drain any excess liquid if needed.
  3. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C) and prepare a 12-cup muffin tin by spraying it with nonstick cooking spray.
  4. Roll pizza dough: Lightly flour a clean surface and roll the pizza dough into a 12”x15” rectangular shape.
  5. Add filling: Evenly spread the cooked hamburger filling over the dough, leaving a ½ inch border around the edges. Sprinkle about three-quarters of the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the filling.
  6. Form log and slice: Starting from one of the shorter edges, roll the dough tightly into a log shape. Use a serrated knife to cut the log into 12 equal pinwheels.
  7. Place in muffin tin: Place one pinwheel into each cup of the prepared muffin tin, arranging them snugly but not overcrowded.
  8. Bake pinwheels: Brush the tops of the pinwheels with olive oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes or until the tops begin to turn light golden brown.
  9. Add more cheese: Remove the tray from the oven and sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese on top of each pinwheel. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Cool and serve: Allow the pinwheels to cool in the pan for several minutes before removing. Serve warm as a delicious appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • Ensure the diced tomatoes are well drained to avoid soggy dough.
  • Use a serrated knife to easily slice the rolled dough into neat pinwheels without squashing them.
  • Let pinwheels cool slightly before removing to prevent them from falling apart.
  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the beef mixture.
  • These can be made ahead and reheated in the oven for a quick snack.
