  • Author: Harry
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Bang Bang Chicken is a delicious crispy air-fried chicken dish coated in a spicy, creamy sauce made from mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, and sriracha. This quick and easy recipe features bite-sized pieces of chicken coated twice in cornstarch and egg for maximum crunch, then air-fried to juicy perfection and drizzled with a flavorful sauce that balances sweetness and heat perfectly.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 1 ½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon water

Sauce

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup Thai sweet chili sauce
  • ½ teaspoon sriracha (more to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken: Chop the chicken breasts into bite-sized pieces and pat them dry with paper towels to ensure the coating sticks well.
  2. Mix dry coating: In a shallow dish, combine the cornstarch, salt, and cracked black pepper.
  3. Prepare egg wash: In a separate shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and water until blended.
  4. Coat the chicken: Dip each piece of chicken first into the cornstarch mixture to coat, then into the egg wash, and finally back into the cornstarch mixture for a double coating that creates a crispy exterior.
  5. Arrange in air fryer: Spray the air fryer basket with non-stick spray to prevent sticking. Place the coated chicken pieces in a single even layer, leaving space between pieces for hot air circulation.
  6. Spray chicken with oil: Liberally spray the chicken pieces with non-stick spray to help with browning and crisping during air frying.
  7. Air fry first side: Cook the chicken in the air fryer at 380°F (193°C) for 5 minutes.
  8. Flip and continue cooking: Turn the chicken pieces over, spray again with non-stick spray, and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  9. Make the bang bang sauce: While the chicken cooks, whisk together the mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, and sriracha in a bowl until smooth.
  10. Adjust spice level: Taste the sauce and add more sriracha if you prefer a spicier flavor.
  11. Serve: Drizzle the prepared sauce generously over the hot, crispy chicken pieces and serve immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Ensure chicken pieces are evenly sized to cook uniformly in the air fryer.
  • Pat the chicken dry before coating to help the batter stick better.
  • Non-stick spray is important to prevent chicken from sticking in the air fryer basket.
  • For a spicier sauce, increase the amount of sriracha gradually.
  • This recipe works well as an appetizer or a main dish when served with rice or vegetables.
